New challenge takes flight

Late last year we were delighted when police officer, Senior Constable Don Bruce got in touch with us about a calendar he was putting together.

Having spent 28 years as a police officer, 23 of which as a forensic photographer in Auckland, Don had decided it was time for a challenge.

“I started photographing birds last year just prior to the level 4 lockdown. It was a challenge to myself to photograph some different subject matter,” says Don.

Don then posted some of the photos on Facebook, receiving many positive responses.

“A few people suggested that I put together a calendar. I had a lot of images of birds to choose from and I thought it would be a good idea to use my images for a good cause. I chose to help Victim Support as I interact with victims of crime almost on a daily basis in my work as a forensic photographer.”

The resulting calendar with Don’s amazing photos was an instant hit selling out within a few weeks. The profit from the sales amounted to over $4,000.00 which all went to Victim Support.
